This easy and delicious homemade Cranberry Sauce recipe is a holiday favorite for those special dinners and gatherings.
Since we moved to the US, I’ve been preparing this sauce. It’s been a classic in our tables for the holiday season since then.
It includes all the flavors we like during this time of the year: cranberries, maple syrup, cinnamon, and orange. Lovely!
HOW TO PREPARE THIS HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE
This cranberry sauce is so easy to prepare and the result so sweet and flavorful that you won’t buy a canned one anymore. And you only need 15 minutes!

For this recipe, you’ll need:
- Fresh cranberries. You can also use frozen ones.
- And for sweetness and extra flavor, this recipe calls for: orange juice and zest, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.
To prepare the sauce, we need a medium saucepan, and the first step is to bring to a boil the orange juice, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
Then add the cranberries, and cook them on low heat.
When they are soft and have burst, the sauce it’s almost ready; we need to stir it in orange zest and ground cinnamon.
Let it cool and refrigerate it until it’s time to serve and enjoy this classic side dish for the holiday season.

RECIPE AND INSTRUCTIONS
HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE
Equipment
- Saucepan
Ingredients
- 12 oz fresh cranberries washed and rinsed. (You can also use frozen cranberries)
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp orange zest
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, add the orange juice, maple syrup, vanilla extract, stir to combine, and bring to a boil.
- Add the cranberries to the saucepan. Reduce the heat and simmer the cranberries for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries are ready when they have burst and the sauce thickenns.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the orange zest and ground cinnamon.
- Let it cool completely at room temperature, then transfer to a serving bowl, and refrigerate. The cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools.
- Keep the sauce in the fridge until it’s time to serve it.
- Enjoy it with your favorite main dish!
Notes
- This cranberry sauce can be prepared 4 to 5 days in advance.
- You can store it in the fridge for 10-14 days and freeze it for two months.
- The leftovers can also be used as a spread for toasts!
WAYS TO ENJOY THIS HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE
Serve this homemade cranberry sauce at room temperature or chilled.
You can garnish it with orange zest or slices and some rosemary leaves.
